The Mariners crashed to a 2-1 defeat at Blue Square Bet North Stalybridge Celtic tonight – to round off their pre-season build-up.

Trialist Luke Daley started the match on the right wing. The 22-year old is a product of the Norwich City Academy and he made his full debut for the Canaries in 2009.

Latest signing Simon Ford began in the centre of defence. Striker Liam Hearn was not included in the squad after picking up an injury at North Ferriby United on Wednesday..

Town looked threatening early on but fell behind in the 40th minute when Kristian Platt finished well from 10 yards after some poor defending in the visitors’ box.

Mitchell Austin doubled the hosts’ advantage after the break, before Greg Pearson pounced on a goalkeeping error to reduce the arrears in the 69th minute.

Town are next in action next Saturday when they open their Blue Square Bet Premier League campaign at Southport.
