Torquay United vs Grimsby Town
 0 - 2
Date:
19/09/2009
Venue:
Plainmoor
Attendance:
2,575
Referee:
Oliver Langford

The Mariners recorded their second consecutive win and their third victory of the season at Plainmoor this afternoon.

Mike Newell made one change from the side that beat Hereford last week, Jamie Clarke preferred in the midfield to Josh Fuller.

Fuller joined the fit again Nick Hegarty, Peter Bore and Jean Louis Akpa Akpro on the Town bench.

The first half was scrappy with defences well on top. But Mike Newell was able to change things and he did do at half time. Newell threw on Peter Bore and Jean Louis Akpa Akpro and the duo had an almost immediate impact.

Akpro and Bore combined and as Bore seemed to tackle Nicholson the ball seemed to loop up and over Poke into the net for a bizarre goal.

Town started to play well with Akpa Akpro winning everything for Town. Then on 65 minutes the Mariners were awarded a free-kick on the edge of the box.

Ryan Bennett stood over the ball but it was Peter Sweeney who curled the ball around the Torquay wall and into the bottom corner of the net.

Apart from a couple of scrambles the Mariners held on well for a deserved win.
