Youths Book Place In Final

Posted on: Tue 09 Mar 2010

GRIMSBY Town Youth booked their place in the Midlands Floodlit Cup final tonight with a 1-0 victory at Walsall.

With the game heading for extra time, Tom Corner popped up to book the Mariners' place in the final for the second time in two seasons.

Speaking of the win, caretaker boss Adam Smith said: "We started the first half okay and created a couple of half chances.

"We then came under a bit of pressure and we were glad to see half time.

"We started the second half well but allowed Walsall back into it again. The pitch was difficult to play on but we've done alright.

"We've defended well tonight and Tom's saved us from going into extra time.

"Credit to the lads, they've dug it out tonight," Adam added.

Town will meet either Port Vale, Shrewsbury or Chesterfield in the final. Chesterfield are awaiting the winners of the Port Vale v Shrewsbury game. The final will be played at either Blundell Park or the other finalists ground.
