Woods Hoping To Tie Up Watt On Monday

Posted on: Sat 31 Jul 2010

TOWN boss Neil Woods is hoping to conclude a deal to sign former Ross County defender Steven Watt on Monday.

Watt, who began his career at Chelsea, has impressed in two of the Mariners' pre-season friendly games and the club have been negotiating with the player over the past few days.

Woods said: "We are hopeful we can conclude it and sign on Monday. Until somebody is signed you are never one-hundred-percent sure that you've got them.

"There's a lot of clubs that have come in for him at the last minute but hopefully he'll be on the photo-shoot on Monday."

Meanwhile, Charles Ademeno and Lewis Gobern are both likely to be out for up to six weeks after scans confirmed that both their injuries are worse than was first thought.

Neil Woods explained: "We only sent him (Charles) for a scan to confirm he was getting better - he is feeling a lot better, he's running, and he joined in training on Tuesday.

"But unfortunately the results say he could be out for six weeks, so that's disappointing.

"With Lewis Gobern, it's exactly the same and he's gone down with a thigh strain.

"He's taken a little bit of criticism from certain people about his injury but the scan says he's got a tear in his thigh and could be out for up to six weeks, which is devastating for him.

"Lewis has actually told us that he felt it two or three weeks ago but because he's aware of his injury record he doesn't want to start on a bad foot at the club, and tried to get through it.

"It's naïve but I think we can all understand where he's coming from and why he's done it. All he's ended up doing, unfortunately, is aggravating the injury.

"It's a blow for us because they're both very bright players and the supporters haven't seen anything like what they're capable of yet, they add another dimension to the team."
