Powerful defender Rob Atkinson completed a permanent switch to Blundell Park in January 2009 after two successful loan spells on the East Coast.
The 22-year-old centre half came through the ranks at Barnsley and has gained experience on loan at Scarborough, Halifax and Rochdale.
