GRIMSBY Town Football club are saddened to hear of the death of supporter Simon Applegate (Guernsey Mariner).
Simon was born and raised in Grimsby. At the age of 15, he ran off to join the Parachute Regiment. During his 18 year career with the armed forces, he became a Band Master, joining the 9th/12th Royal Lancers.
He subsequently moved to Guernsey and became Musical Director of the Guernsey Concert Brass Band.
Simon never forgot his roots and his beloved Grimsby Town Football Club, making frequent trips and always wearing the latest shirt with pride.
Simon was a frequent poster on Electronic Fishcake and Grim Outlook. His 'off-topic' humour, his in-depth analysis of all matters curry and pie related and his co-ordination of the 'Fishy Meets' is the stuff of legend.
Simon leaves behind sons, Mark, Jon and James and four granchildren - all who miss his rubbish jokes, technicolour shirts and endless stories of Grimsby Town.
A heart and a sense of humour the size of a house.
Goodbye, big man...
