THE Mariners continued their pre-season build-up with a 4-2 victory at Barton Town Old Boys this afternoon.
Bosses Rob Scott and Paul Hurst took a first-team squad – including trialist and ex Town defender Simon Ford to the Euronics Ground for the clash with the Northern Counties East League Premier Division side.
And when the Mariners stormed into a three-goal lead, it looked like an easy win was on the cards.
Young Dayle Southwell opened the scoring in the 21st minute when he tapped the ball home from short range, before Joe Colbeck added goals two and three within five minutes.
The hosts pulled one back immediately as Ashley Dexter headed home a free-kick - and made it 3-2 before half-time when Ray Ford side-footed home.
There was only one further goal in the second-half, with substitute Sam Hatton heading a cross past home keeper Liam Taylor in the 69th minute.
Latest signing Greg Fleming played the full ninety minutes in the Town goal.
