Buxton 0 v Town 1

28 November 2012

FA Carlsberg Trophy First Round Replay

Buxton 0

Grimsby Town 1 (Miller 87)

Attendance: 444

The Town management duo made five changes from the side that drew 0-0 with the Bucks on Saturday.

James McKeown came in for Greg Fleming, Michael Rankine and Greg Pearson for Scott Neilson and Andy Cook while Bradley Wood and Dayle Southwell replaced Sam Hatton and Andi Thanoj.

The Mariners had the lion’s share of the play and created the best chances on the night.  Aswad Thomas perhaps should have done better from 12 yards when put in by Cook, but the Town defender hit the side netting with his effort.

Craig Disley’s spectacular overhead kick flew just over and Shaun Pearson’s volley from a corner met the same feat.

The home side had chances too. James McKeown had to be on his toes to save a deflected effort from Thornhill, and Lugsden fired straight at the Town stopper from a good position.

But with the game heading for extra time, Ian Miller rose to meet a Louie Soares cross and head past Deakin to send the 200 or so Town fans home happy.

The Mariners will now face a home tie against Braintree Town or Havant & Waterlooville on December 15th.

Town: McKeown; Wood, Miller, Pearson, Thomas, Southwell, Disley, Niven, Marshall (Soares 86) , Rankine (Cook 59), Pearson - G (Hannah 86).

Subs: Hatton, Ford.
