Aswad Looking Forward To England Test

11 September 2012

TOWN defender Aswad Thomas says that if he gets to make his England C debut on Wednesday night he won’t be nervous but will look forward to it.

He met up with his new team-mates at Manchester Airport on Sunday and trained with the England squad in Belgium yesterday. The party then headed to the Gemeentalijk Sportstadion in Zaventem where the Challenge Trophy Group A fixture will take place.

Aswad said: “To be honest I ‘m looking forward to it. I spoke to a couple of the Forest Green boys on Saturday and I am looking forward to meeting up with them.”

Following a home draw with Italy and a 4-0 defeat against Russia in Moscow earlier this year, coach Paul Fairclough knows that nothing short of a victory in Zaventem will suffice for the team to stand a chance of progressing to the Semi-Finals.

Fellow full-back Sam Hatton was also called up for the squad but had to withdraw because of an ankle injury.

The squad: Preston Edwards (Ebbsfleet United), Ian Ormson (Stockport County), Aswad Thomas (both Grimsby Town), Jamie Turley, Eddie Oshodi (both Forest Green Rovers). Simon Ainge (Guiseley), Lindon Meikle (Mansfield Town), Josh Gilles (Gateshead), Stephen Brogan (Guiseley), Keiron Forbes (Forest Green Rovers), James Vincent (Kidderminster Harriers), Kenny Davis (Braintree Town), Scott Spencer (Hyde), Andre Gray (Luton Town), Josh Wilson (Guiseley).
