GRIMSBY Town Football Club announce the retirement of long serving director John Elsom.
John who joined the board in December 2002 has decided to step down following his support to co-opt two new director representatives of the Mariners Trust.
The former Chairman of the Page and Moy Travel agency feels now is the right time to step back from the board all be it he will continue his support for the Mariners.
John whose family hales from Brigg will become Club President for the foreseeable future.
The Directors would like to pay tribute to him for his significant contribution and service to the board. John will however remain as advisor to the board.
The move will see John convert his exiting loans into shares for the benefit of the Club.
The club would like to wish John and his family all the very best in his retirement.
In an official statement, John said: "The very good news that two new directors are joining the Board of Grimsby Town Football Club means that I, aged 74- and after 11 years on the board - am now able to step down as a Director at a time when the Club will still have a remaining quorum of Directors.
"In turn I am delighted to have been appointed Club President, a position that I will be very proud to hold. I have converted my loan to the Club into further shares in order to bind myself to the future of the Club.
"I will continue to attend matches at Blundell Park along with my wife Janet, and hope to see Grimsby Town promoted back to the Football League this season.
"I congratulate John Fenty on his strong and generous leadership of the Club and I also wish to mention my appreciation of the hard working and enthusiastic staff led by Chief Executive Ian Fleming".
