Welling United 1 Grimsby Town 2
FA Trophy Third Round | 12th January 2013
It was a tale of three penalties in a pulsating cup tie between the Wings and the Mariners back in January this year.
Ross Hannah missed his chance to put the visitors ahead before Joe Healy put the home side in front after a foul by Shaun Pearson.
Town were gifted another chance from 12 yards on the half hour, with Jamie Devitt this time making no mistake.
Managers Rob Scott and Paul Hurst threw new signing Hannah straight into the starting line-up alongside Richard Brodie but it was the hosts who came out firing, Jack Obersteller hitting the post with an ambitious free kick on six minutes.
But then Hannah found his drive, seeing his goalbound effort blocked by Anthony Acheampong. When the same player handled a corner, the Town striker could only strike his spot kick against the post though.
Town were cutting through the Wings at will but Hannah and Brodie were both being wasteful in front of goal.
And the Mariners were punished on 25 minutes when Pearson felled Lafayette in the area and Healy hammered home the penalty.
That lead lasted just five minutes though as Devitt was tripped in the box and dusted himself down to convert from 12 yards.
The visitors came out in better shape for the second period and snatched the win on 52 minutes. A corner was half-cleared to Marshall, 20 yards out on the right of the box and he struck a thronking half-volley into the top corner to send Town through to a Fourth Round clash with Luton Town.
