A Message From John Fenty

24 December 2013

I hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas and a very happy New Year.

I am delighted to say It's been a good year for the club on the field - albeit we narrowly missed promotion through the play-offs.

The target is to go one better and see it through this season, and who knows, we're looking good in the Trophy again. So fingers and everything else crossed.

There seems to be a new found confidence and resilience amongst the team, again that was evident when we came from behind to beat promotion rivals Kidderminster on Thursday night.

The Gaffer and lads are doing a great job for sure.

I am sure you will join me in wishing them all the best for the limited festivities they are allowed and that they go on from strength to strength.

It's a tough division - arguably as good as League 2, but it remains wide open at the top and you cannot doubt we are in a good spot at this stage.

We’ve got to stick together through thick and thin and we will have our day, so let's hope it's this time around.

Off the field we have the, illusive so far, relocation hopes in hand once again. This time we are looking for, and will need real backing from the council. Not in monetary terms but proper backing by them in making some brave decisions about where to relocate to and what is included in achieving such.

There is a desperate need to preserve this great institution and make it sustainable and competitive for future generations to enjoy, a message we need to impress again and again on the council as we ask them for their support along the way.

As heart breaking as it is to turn your back on Blundell Park, we have to face facts, it was built in Victorian times and even with huge investment it cannot be fit for purpose, or meet the business case a modern football club requires to compete.

I would again like to thank all of you who have backed us this year - especially the 2000 plus season ticket holders, commercial  sponsors and those that attend week in week out, and not to forget the staff and the board who support me in keeping this club going through thick and thin.

Best Wishes and Up the Mariners
