TOWN joint boss Rob Scott said that too many of his players had an off night and he hoped that the poor performance was just a blip.
He said: “If you perform like that you are not going to win games. Tonight we weren’t anywhere near good enough to get anything out of the game.
“The conditions played a big part. We played Lenny up front tonight and I think he was our best player in the first half. You obviously get questioned by people who have asked why we have changed a winning team. We’ve got a very hectic schedule and we were playing on a very heavy pitch. We knew we would have to play a certain way tonight and Lenny was working very hard tonight and caused them more problems than anybody else. We had a decision to make and we made it. I don’t think that was the reason why we lost the game.
“The reason behind why we lost the game was because we had nine passengers at certain points during the game.
“If you have that many players not performing you are certainly not going to get anything out of the game.
“Certain sections of the fans were quite right in saying that it is just one game. Let’s hope that it is just one game.
“We’ve lost five games this season. I think if we’d said that at the start of the season everybody would have been snapping your hands off.
“It wasn’t good enough tonight – the players know that, the staff know that and the fans know that.
“Hopefully it was just a blip.”
