Youths Fall At First Hurdle

14 November 2013

Grimsby Town Yth 1 Shrewsbury Town Yth 2

OUR Youth team fell at the first hurdle when they were knocked out of the Midlands Floodlit Cup by Shrewsbury Town tonight.

The game came to life in the second half as the visitors raced into a two goal lead. But Town were offered a lifeline when one of the Shrew’s players was shown a straight red card for serious foul play.

Bemrose struck to halve the deficit, but with Town pushing for the equaliser, Shrewsbury broke and their striker was upended by Bastock in the box. The referee had no hesitation in dismissing the former Boston keeper and pointing to the spot. Midfielder Jordan Barnett took over between the sticks and managed to tip away the resulting penalty.

Unfortunately for Town that was it and it’s another cup exit for Stuart Watkiss’ team.

Town: Bastock, Walker, Falconer, Humble, Winfarrah, Venney, Burgess, Wattam, Loughran, Charlesworth, Robinson.
