Ron Rafferty Back At BP

GRIMSBY Town legend Ron Rafferty will be a special guest of the Mariners Trust at today's game.


He scored 145 League goals for the Mariners and is the club's second highest all-time goalscorer.


Ron Rafferty Facts


On 7th November 1960, Town played Lincoln City in the Lincolnshire Cup.  Ron Rafferty scored a double hat-trick (6 goals) as Town won 8-3.


When Ron Rafferty scored 26 goals in the 1957-8 season, he was the 4th highest scorer in the second Division (now the Championship).  Above him were Johnston of Blackburn Rovers/Leyton Orient, on 44, Brian Clough (Middlesbrough) on 40, and Summers of Charlton on 28.


In the 1961-2 season, Ron Rafferty scored 34 league goals, plus one in the FA Cup, and one in the League Cup.


In May 1958, shortly before the World Cup of that year, Town toured Czechoslovakia playing against the Czech World Cup Team!  The result was 1-1, with Ron Rafferty scoring the goal!
