THE Mariners have signed Cambridge United striker DELANO SAM-YORKE on a
Delano had been recruited from Conference South side Basingstoke Town on a one-year deal prior to the U’s 2013/14 campaign. He is described as a quick and powerful forward with an eye for goal.
Formerly on the books at AFC Wimbledon and Woking, he netted 16 times in 36 appearances during the 2012/13 season, contributing to an eye-catching total of 41 in 92 games for the Hampshire club. Delano bagged a fine debut brace during the U’s 5-1 opening day win over debut Halifax last season but, with competition fierce in the United ranks, he was loaned out to fellow Conference outfit Lincoln City in January.
Delano scored three goals in nine impressive appearances for the Imps, was duly recalled by Richard Money in February and the following day netted during a 5-1 win over Kidderminster. A powerful front-runner whose contract has been extended for a further 12 months, he boosted his U's goal tally to seven when bagging a brace in the second leg play-off semi-final win over Halifax last season.
