Grimsby Town 0-1 Mansfield Town

25 July 2014

THE Mariners were unlucky to get nothing out of tonight's game after dominating for long spells.

Town's best chances fell to Paddy McLaughlin in the first half and Ross Hannah late on in the game.

Firstly the Irishman neatly flicked the ball over a Mansfield defender before unleashing a low strike towards the bottom corner - saved by Studer.

And then the Town midfielder was unlucky to see his powerful header come back off the post.

But Matt Rhead gave the Stags the lead just before the break when the ball fell kindly for Palmer on the right. His initial shot was saved by McKeown but fell to Rhead to drill home from close range.

The Mariners ended the game on top and Studer made a cracking save from a low Magnay shot, with Ross Hannah blasted  over the rebound.

Former Town striker Liam Hearn was applauded by the Town fans when he came on as a second half substitute.
