THE Mariners have signed former Southport midfielder Scott Brown on a one-year deal.

He becomes Paul Hurst's first summer signing after Craig Disley, James McKeown and Scott Neilson all agreed new deals for the 2014/15 campaign

Scott starting his career with Everton in their youth system, playing alongside Wayne Rooney for their youth side.

He later moved to Bristol City, having failed to make the breakthrough  for the "Toffees". After three years with City, he moved to Cheltenham Town in 2007. Two years later he spent a brief spell with Port Vale, before signing for Morecambe in 2010. After a brief spell with Fleetwood Town, he signed with York City in January 2012.

He played for York in the victorious 2012 Conference Premier play-off Final at Wembley Stadium, playing alongside Scott Kerr, Paddy McLaughlin and Chris Doig.

After a brief spell at Macclesfield Town in August 2012, he went on to join Chester the following month. He helped Chester to win both the Conference North title and the Cheshire Senior Cup in the 2012–13 season. The 29-year old Southport in July 2013 and was their captain last season.
