The World Cup - Diz's View

28 May 2014

Skipper Craig Disley is the latest player to give us their views on the forthcoming World Cup in Brazil.

Catch the views of the other players, manager Paul Hurst, assistant manager Chris Doig on the Mariners Wall. We'll be getting their views on the World Cup throughout the summer.

Who do you think will win the World Cup?

Diz: It's hard to look past any of the South American sides. It's going to be hot down there so I think that Brazil, with the home crowd, might do it. If not Brazil I think Argentina might do it.

Your outsiders?

Diz: Spain. The way they play football. They are the current world and European champions, so as a European side, I think they are the best bet.

Can England get out of their group and get a result against Italy?

Diz: It's going to be a tough game against Italy. Obviously they are a good side. They've obviously been a good side for many years. They beat us in the last World Cup on pens but hopefully. It's like any tournament, it is nice to get off to a good start and hopefully we can do that.

Can England win the World Cup?

To be honest I think that this year is the least optimistic we've been going in to a World Cup tournament. People aren't expecting a great deal. So you never know, we might go on and win it this year. I think it is going to be difficult for England to get out of their group, but if we do I think we will see that as a success. I would like for us to go there, give the young boys a chance, then who knows. Hopefully they will play with freedom and be able to do it on the big stage.

Diz’s Starting England Xl: Hart, Johnson, Cahill, Jagielka, Baines, Gerrard, Henderson, Sterling, Rooney, Llanana, Sturridge.
