FORMER Town striker Liam Hearn says that the Mariners have got what is needed to be successful this season.
The Mansfield Town frontman travelled across Derbyshire to see the Mariners' Easter Monday victory at Alfreton.
He said: “Yes definitely. They've got a good set of lads. Some of the new additions I haven't seen before look really good. The kid on the right (Mackreth) and obviously my mate Ollie. I'd love to see them go up – it would be great to see.
“Obviously Grimsby got the win that they wanted.
“It was a good game but it is always going to be difficult in conditions like this. It's good to catch up with a few people and I'm glad that Grimsby have got the result that they need.”
But Liam has had a tough time since he signed for the Stags and has been frustrated by two injury setbacks.
He said: “It's been a bit of a rollercoaster. I think the second injury was a bit frustrating and I think it was down to over-work. But now I've finally overcome this injury now and I can't wait to get back.
“I'm in the squad now. I thought I might have squeezed the bench today but it wasn't meant to be. I've got another reserve game tomorrow against Burton and hopefully I do well in that. Friday we are away to Plymouth and hopefully I will get selected and get a goal before the end of the season.”
And Liam was delighted with the reception he received from the Town fans at the Impact Arena.
He said: I just wanted to get across and see two of my old club
“It's amazing. I was nearly getting emotional when they were clapping me at the end. When I see them like that it just brings back unbelievable memories. When we beat them here 4-2, I remember grabbing a couple and they have supported me all the way through what ever I did.
“Just coming today has made me happy. Hopefully one day, I've always said, before the end of my career I would love to come back.”
