Vanarama National League Round Up

21 August 2015

Steve Whitney's weekly round up of the Vanarama National League.

Ady Pennock’s Forest Green Rovers side maintained their terrific start to the new 2015/16 season with a hard-fought 1-0 win at newly-promoted Boreham Wood on Tuesday night.

Kurtis Guthrie’s goal 13 minutes from time condemned Ian Allinson’s side to a third successive defeat following their opening day victory over FC Halifax Town.

Indeed, it has gone from bad to worse for the Shaymen since that loss to Wood as Tuesday’s
1-0 defeat at Tranmere Rovers was their fourth on the spin.

Neil Aspin will be hoping his new-look side can finally get off the mark when they host another of the newly-promoted teams, Bromley, on Saturday.

The southern section champions also suffered a third successive defeat on Tuesday evening at home to Braintree Town, for whom it was a first victory under Danny Cowley’s leadership.

Aldershot Town, Kidderminster Harriers and Southport are the other sides still searching for that elusive first win Kiddy and Port both lost at home on Tuesday to Wrexham and Gateshead respectively, while the Shots earned a second point after sharing a 1-1 home draw with Dover Athletic.

Lincoln City are one of six teams yet to taste defeat thus far, and were involved in a real thriller at Sincil Bank on Tuesday, coming back from being two-down inside 6 minutes against Macclesfield Town to eventually triumph 5-3 with a hat-trick from Liam Hearn – the first of 2015/16.

However, the former Grimsby Town and Alfreton Town favourite trails Gateshead’s Ryan Bowman in the overall goalscorers’ chart after the summer signing from Torquay United took his tally to five for the season with one of the goals in the Tynesiders’ 2-1 win at Southport on Tuesday.
