OUR Youth team were beaten 4-2 by local rivals Lincoln City this morning.
With no game for the first team there was a larger than average crowd to see Town's first game of the new year.
The Mariners fell behind early on when Sam Fewkes was given time and space to fire past Jack Pearson. But Town clawed their way back into the game and equalised midway through the first half, when a fantastic strike by Max Wright levelled things.
But, just like the first team game against the Imps, the visitors struck a sucker punch just before the break through Andy Wright, giving them the advantage once again.
The Mariners came out for the second half with more fight and under 16's striker Reece York scored another brilliant goal to get them back in the game. The youngster picked the ball up 20 yards out before unleashing an unstoppable drive over the City keeper and into the net.
And Town had a good chance to take the lead when Max Wright broke into the box after a good move down the left. Unfortunately his first effort from close in was blocked and he put the rebound just wide of the left post.
But from the goal kick, the Imps broke clear and that man Andy Wright finished neatly past Jack Pearson.
And Jordan Harper sealed the victory for the visitors right at the end.
Sidelined: Jordan Barnett (broken leg), Kris Fawcett (broken leg), Callum Bastock (knee), Lewis Bemrose (suspended).
Former Youth team coach Stuart Watkiss was amongst the spectators. The Bharat FC coach is currently back in the UK to attend a family funeral. Stuart's Indian side get their season under way on January 24th.
