THE support Paul Hurst and his team received last season was nothing short of being absolutely magnificent!
At Blundell Park over 7,000 turned out for the festive fixture against our local rivals Lincoln City, just shy of 6,000 were out in force for the Gateshead game in April and 6,286 made the 3-0 win against Eastleigh in the Play-Off Semi Final second leg a real throwback to games of the 80s and 90s.
On the road your away support was legendary too. Almost 2,000 were at Sincil Bank on a Tuesday night, 969 saw us humble the future champions Barnet and 2,500 crammed into the Impact Arena to see The Mariners guarantee a play-off place on East Monday.
Then, a few weeks ago, 14,000 of you – travelling from every corner of the globe – descended on Wembley Stadium for the Play-Off Final. And although we didn’t get the result we wanted, it was a pleasure to see so many people in black and white, cheering on the boys until the bitter end.
Paul Hurst has already started building a new squad for the 2015/16 campaign and we were delighted when club captain Craig Disley was the first to commit himself to The Mariners for another season. Since his arrival in the summer of 2011, Dis has become a talismanic figure in the Town engine room, racking up 195 appearances, scoring an impressive 31 times.
Naturally some of the players offered new deals by Paul will wished to move on to progress their careers, however departing players will provide new opportunities for the manager to improve the squad. I for one can assure you that Paul is working tirelessly behind the scenes to bring in players who can help us make that final step, so Grimsby Town can once again be a Football League club.
Again we have decided to freeze the cost of the season ticket, meaning an adult and accompanying junior can enjoy another exciting season for less than £15 per game by purchasing a season ticket.
Also, after consultation with the Mariners Trust, a new age 19-21 concession category has been introduced to help prevent a ‘lost generation’ of supporters.
Once again there will be plenty of opportunities for supporters to support the club’s ongoing youth funding gap, the hugely successful ‘Century Club’ will continue for its third year and a new initiative which will allow supporters the chance to personalise their season ticket seat for £20 will be introduced.
It’s vital the club and the fans continue to support each other while we endeavour to return to the Football League - one way of doing this is to renew your season ticket.
I hope to see you back at Blundell Park in the new season!
