OUR youth team ran out 2-1 winners against Burton Albion at Cheapside on Saturday morning.
Goals from Lewis Bemrose and Lucas Middleton sealed the victory, as the YT’s bounced back to win again after their winning run was halted at Chesterfield on Wednesday.
Town were the dominant team in the first half, without managing to create any real cut chances. Max Wright came the closest to opening the scoring but his shot was saved at the near post and Burton went close just before when a well-struck free kick went just over Jack Pearson’s crossbar.
Alan Lamb’s side again started the stronger in the second period and were rewarded only two minutes into it, when Lewis Bemrose was played through and beat the offside trap before calmly chipping the ball over the onrushing Burton keeper and into the net.
Burton equalised on the hour mark through a terrific free-kick from their centre midfielder but Town retook the lead mid-way through the half when Harry Clifton whipped a free-kick of his own into the box and Lucas Middleton was on hand to bundle home at the far post.
The YT’s are next in action when they travel to Rotherham in two weeks’ time but aren’t back at Cheapside until 21st March, where they will entertain Hull City.
