Our Youth Team recorded an impressive 2-0 win over Humberside rivals Hull City at Cheapside this morning.
Second half goals from Jordan Barnett and Max Wright were the difference, as Alan Lamb’s side completed a home and away double over the Tigers following a 3-2 victory earlier in the season.
The first half was one of few chances but it was the Mariners that were the side on the front foot. Striker Lewis Bemrose went close early on but his shot was just wide of the near post, whilst there was a goalmouth scramble that Hull eventually managed to clear as the half drew to a close.
Town deservedly took the lead within two minutes of the restart when Josh Venney’s corner was powerfully headed home by Barnett.
Victory was then secured with around twenty minutes to go when a defensive mix-up saw Wright put through on a goal and he made no mistake in slotting the ball past the on-rushing Hull goalkeeper to give Town a two goal cushion.
This completed the YT’s sixth win in their last eight games, and they are now next in action when they take on Notts County at Cheapside on 4 April.
