Vanarama National League Round Up

20 November 2015

With this midweek set aside for FA Cup replays, many teams in the Vanarama National League have a rest ahead of Saturday’s fixture list which presents several terrific-looking encounters.

The obvious stand-out fixture pitches league leaders Cheltenham Town with second-placed neighbours Forest Green Rovers at the World of Smile Stadium.

Last weekend saw both win to leave Gary Johnson’s Robins a point in front of Ady Pennock’s Rovers.

Cheltenham inflicted what turned out to be a mortal blow on Paul Carden, who lost his post as Southport manager following a 4-0 drubbing at the Merseyrail Community Stadium, while Forest Green eased to a 3-1 home win against a Dover Athletic side whose manager Chris Kinnear had just been rewarded with October’s manager of the month award.

Third meet fourth on Saturday as the Silverlake Stadium hosts Eastleigh against Grimsby Town, and these two also come into the game in form after beating Guiseley AFC and Welling United  espectively last weekend.

After an initial burst of form following Kevin Nicholson’s appointment as player-manager of Torquay United, the Gulls go into their home game with Lincoln City four points behind fifth bottom Boreham Wood and in need of a win.

The Imps on the other hand, are in need of the points to stay in contention for a play-off
Another early season ‘six-pointer’ sees Welling United host managerless Southport at Park View Road, and although Loui Fazakerley’s (pictured) Wings possess a sevenpoint lead over Port, the visitors do have two games in hand.

One of the most impressive performances last weekend saw Macclesfield Town inflict a 5-2 hammering on out-of-form Woking at Kingfield.

In recent weeks the Cards have slipped from being top five contenders to being in need of points to push away from the opposite end of the table.
