Narrow Defeat For Reserves

14 October 2015

Chesterfield 1 Grimsby Town 0

THE Mariners' second string were narrowly beaten by their hosts Chesterfield in a Final Third East League fixture at the Proact Stadium this afternoon.

Town included a mix of youth and experienced players, with manager Paul Hurst, his assistant Chris Doig and keeper coach Andy Warrington pushing up the average age of the team.

Scott Brown, who has just returned from injury, got more time on the field under his belt, having also featured in the closing stages of last night's 7-0 victory against FC Halifax Town.

Dieseruvwe's class finish on 24 minutes proved to be the difference between the two sides, with Town's best attack and move coming when Jack Mackreth tested the Spireites keeper. The Town midfielder also saw a volley go just over the crossbar.

Harry Clifton's 71st minute dismissal couldn't take the shine off what was a disciplined and hard-working display by Chris Doig's side.

Town: Warrington, Sibbick, Hurst, Brown, Sunter, Doig, Venney, Clifton, Sawyer, Mackreth, Jennings.

Subs: Heath-Drury, Hough, Wroot, Lawis, Crowther.
