Referee Watch - Cheltenham Town

28 October 2015

REFEREE John Brooks will officiate the Mariners' televised clash with Cheltenham Town on Friday night.

Brooks is a part of the Select Group of referees, meaning that he can officiate matches at Premier League and Football League level, whilst he also joined the FIFA International Referees List as an assistant referee earlier this year.

So far this season, he has handed out 19 yellow cards with no sendings off in eight National League games, whilst he issued 67 yellows and three reds in 16 games in 2014/15.

The Leicestershire based official was famously filmed asking Manchester City defender Joleon Lescott to thank the City fans after he ran the line in an FA Cup tie against Arsenal in January 2013.

He will be assisted by Dean Watson and Mark Cunliffe, whilst Ricky Wootton will act as Fourth Official.

He last took charge of Town in the 2-1 defeat to Altrincham in August. On that day, George Bowerman scored to give the Robins the lead in dubious fashion just before the quarter hour mark, with there being question marks about whether the ball crossed the line or not.

Town equalised just before the break through Omar Bogle, before Bowerman pounced again on the hour mark to hand Paul Hurst's side their first loss of the season.

The official also took charge of Town's games at home to Welling and Braintree last season, which were won 2-0 and 1-0 respectively, as well as the 2-2 draw against Gateshead in at Blundell Park in April. In those three games, he sent off Braintree's Ched Isaac and Gateshead's Valentin Gjokaj for second bookable offences.
