Vanarama National League Round Up

24 September 2015

It’s been a mixed week for Ady Pennock’s Forest Green Rovers side. They went into last Saturday’s trip to Macclesfield Town still top of the Vanarama National League table and looking to get back to winning ways having lost their 100% record the previous midweek at Woking.

But instead they returned to Gloucestershire on the back of a 4-1 drubbing by John Askey’s men, for whom Kristian Dennis bagged a brace after Rovers had to play with ten-men for the entire second half following the dismissal of Rob Sinclair.

It was crucial, therefore, that they recovered for the big local derby on Tuesday night when local neighbours Cheltenham Town came to the New Lawn.

And a bumper crowd of 3,127 saw Forest Green restore some pride with an 82nd minute equaliser from Kurtis Guthrie to earn a point from a 2-2 draw.

Cheltenham are second, two points above Wrexham, who saw their 100% home record ended after a 0-0 draw with Grimsby Town.

Tuesday’s 5-2 home hammering by Dover Athletic made it five games without a win for Eastleigh, who began the new season with seven unbeaten matches. And that prompted Richard Hill’s resignation the following morning.

The same night saw Kidderminster Harriers  beaten in their first game under temporary boss Colin Gordon as they went down 3-2 in an entertaining encounter at Bromley, who made it five successive wins in the league to move up to eighth in the fledgling table.

Gary Whild lost his job at Aggborough after last Saturday’s 2-0 home defeat by Lincoln City sunk Harriers to the bottom of the table and still without a win.

Torquay United are also managerless following Paul Cox’s resignation last Thursday, and suffered back-to-back defeats, including a 7-3 hammering at home by Bromley which resulted in director of football Dean Edwards also quitting.
