Woolmer In Charge For Trophy Opener - Referee Watch

29 August 2016

Experienced official Andy Woolmer will be in charge for the Northern Group H clash with Walsall.

NORTHAMPTONSHIRE referee Andy Woolmer will be the man in the middle for Tuesday night's Checktrade Trophy Group clash with Walsall at the Bescot Stadium.

An experienced referee with over ten years of Football League experience under his belt, Mr Woolmer officiated the final of this competition last season, as Barnsley beat Oxford United 3-2 at Wembley Stadium, and handed out 109 yellow cards and 2 reds over the course of the campaign.

He took charge of Town on a number of occasions during their previous spell in the EFL, with the last fixtures being a previous clash with Tuesday's opponents Walsall at Blundell Park in September 2006, in which the Mariners came away with a 2-1 win thanks to a Peter Bore winner, and a win of the same score against Wrexham in February 2007.

Woolmer last took charge of Reading's 1-0 victory at Cardiff City in the Championship last weekend and will be assisted by Phill Dermott, Paul Hobaday and Fourth Official Michael D'Aguilar for the Northern Group H opener.
