Gaffer Closes In On Targets

29 December 2016

Grimsby Town boss Marcus Bignot has today revealed he’s optimistic he will have a new signing in time for the Carlisle game next Monday.

He said: “There is something brewing and hopefully, fingers crossed, touch wood, we can have a new addition to the group, which I believe will help us moving forward.

“There’s still a few days away from Carlisle so it gives me that opportunity to work our wonders.”

But the boss wasn’t opening up about the position of the player he’s hoping to bring in.

“No I’m not saying that, but it’s needed in terms of an area where we’re looking at. It will help give us balance and also where I feel we need to add to.

“It’s just one piece of the jigsaw we’re looking to put together.”

Bignot confirmed he’s re-submitted offers after his previous ones were rejected last week.

“We’ve revisited them again and hopefully now we can start to sit down with the clubs and one way or the other draw a conclusion and draw a line underneath it.”

But he insisted the players he signs will have to be determined, hard-workers as well as bringing extra talent to the team on the field.

“With players not only they have the ability to do that but as people and characters as well, in terms of wanting success and being successful.”

He also acknowledged there may be some outgoings next month as the squad size increases.

“I’m looking to work with all my group. Obviously, like everything, you’ve got to balance budgets and squads. I’m sure over this window, the squad’s going to evolve and with that, obviously, comes different situations.”

The transfer window officially opens at 00:01am on Sunday. Stay on our official channels.
