Gateshead Press Conference - A Summary

28 January 2016

On injuries.

We've got Gregor out - that's a definite. I would have thought that he will be a minimum of three weeks. Without having a definite on that, he will be out for a little while. Which is a blow for us. Paul confirmed that Gregor has an ankle injury and a knee ligament injury.

Callum Bastock has had his operation and will be out for a long time.

And we lost another young player, Josh Sunter, in the reserves. He's broken his fibula so I think he is going to have six weeks in pot.

On Gateshead.

This will be one of our tougher tests, going up to Gateshead under Neil Aspin. He's now got the team playing something like what he wants, and picking up results.

I think he's got quite a few players that have been there a little while. Neil's obviously brought one or two in - I think on loan more than anything. A lad from Middlesbrough, CJ Hamilton, who he had at Halifax, did very well for him and brings a lot of pace to the team.

He'll have them organised. He did a very good job at Halifax, wasn't quite happening for him at the start of this season, but I thought they would have given him time there.

We certainly know one of the lads well in Paddy McLaughlin, who's been on the score-sheet a few times. He almost scored with a header from a corner at the weekend. We know all about him and the threat that they can pose us.

Who's their main threats up front.

Johnson, who is a goalscorer. I think he's had a few injuries but when he's played his goal-scoring record is pretty good. And Bowman, who is one of the strikers that most managers would have watched at some point.  He's got all the attributes to go on and be a very good player.

The search for players.

I have still got my phone but it's got a smashed screen at the minute, but it is in danger of just getting thrown into a field, he joked.

Frustrated at the minute. I have no news for you in terms of players. We'll keep persisting with it, see if anything changes.  At the minute a lot of dead-ends have come my way. We will all see it on the internet and so on, see that some teams are signing players. But in general, certainly the ones at our level are not ones that I would be interested in.

So it's about us trying to get the right people as well.

The latest on Jack Mackreth.

Nothing's happening there. As far as I am aware that interest that there was has gone away. For Jack now, realistically, it is about about getting his head down and seeing if he can get back into my plans.

I've always said that, it's not like they have been cut off altogether.
