REPORT: Gainsborough Trinity 3 - 2 Grimsby Town

27 July 2016

THE dominant Mariners were stunned by a late winner at Northolme tonight.

The Town boss had named a strong starting Xl – including an unnamed trialist up top alongside Omar Bogle.

The visitors had taken the lead in the first half when Omar Bogle opened his pre season account with a stunning curling shot from 25 yards.

However, against the run of play, Trinity levelled things from the penalty spot after Andrew Boyce was penalised for a high tackle.

The Mariners restored the lead soon after when Luke Summerfield finished off a great move with a neat finish inside the box.

Paul Hurst made a raft of changes after the interval, with Dominic Vose replacing the unnamed trialist.

And the visitors were pegged back when Matty Wilson powered home a header from a corner with 15 minutes to go.

But Trinity weren't ready to settle for the draw, and when James McKeown tipped Reid's effort onto the crossbar, there was Worsfold to follow up to slam home the winner.

Gainsborough Trinity: Hedge, Picton, Lacey, Wilson, Quinn, Baetson, Thornhill, Reid, Hazel, Worsfold, Rothery. Subs: Porritt (trialist), Evans, Thewliss, Wiles, Eastwood.

Grimsby Town: McKeown, Davies, Jones, Boyce, Andrew, Bolarinwa, Disley, McAllister, Chambers, Bogle, A Trialist.
