REPORT: North Ferriby Utd 4-1 Grimsby Town

12 July 2016

THE Mariners were comprehensively beaten 4-1 at National League newcomers  North Ferriby United tonight.

Goals from Curtis Bateson and Simon Russell had sent the home side into the break two-nil to the good.

But the Mariners came out for the second half with more urgency, and when a neat finish by Luke Summerfield reduced the arrears, it looked like the visitors had fought their way back into the game.

But Steve Brogan's stinging drive from 18 yards flew past James McKeown, before Jason Hare made sure, running onto a through ball to finish high past the Town keeper.

Town boss Paul Hurst had named a strong stating Xl, with a bench made up from the Town youth team.

The rest of his squad and absentees from tonight will feature in Wednesday's Lincolnshire Senior Cup quarter Final at Stamford (7pm).

Town: McKeown; Davies, Andrew, Boyce, Gowling; McAllister, Summerfield, Berrett; Chambers, Bogle, Vose.

Subs: Sawyer, Rawls, Finnegan, Keeble, Hough, Toft
