Marcus Bignot - First Pre Match Press Conference

8 November 2016

MARCUS Bignot took his first training session today as Grimsby Town manager and also faced the media in the run up to our fixture at home vs. Sheffield United.

On his first training session

"Well I enjoyed it, that's the main thing! No i'm joking. It was good to be out there and with a new group of players, it was like the first day at school! I made a lot of new friends so I can go home and tell my mum I made a lot of new friends at school so i'm happy!"

On a different style of training

I don't know what they were use to before but it's certainly going to be my way now. And our way in that case, like i've said, they've done a lot of things really well and it's about making sure we continue that and can we do it a little better. In the areas where we think we can improve, we will work hard to improve that. I just want to create an environment where it is a learning environment but with learning, you have to make sure they enjoy it because you get better results like that.

On being 'animated' on the touchline

Am I? I didn't realise you were filming me! I will have to look back on some of the footage and see how I played as well!

Sheffield United Team News

To be honest, in terms of the game it's a perfect opportunity for players who haven't had many minutes and a real opportunity for me to have a look at the depth of the squad. Ultimately, all the games I have seen on the videos have been a core group of starting players, but it will be a great opportunity for me to see the depth of the squad. I'm really looking forward to seeing them play tomorrow night and hopefully we will get a real good, positive performance and result. During the season you're going to get suspensions, injuries and a dip in form, so it's important that the group of players feel they've got a huge part to play this season.

On the players training today

I've been really impressed. I don't want to sound cliché and boring but if I didn't think they did good today, i'd have said. I was enthused, they gave me enthusiasm if i'm being honest. Yes it's important you put on sessions for them that they can engage in and develop and learn from but more importantly, they enthused me and I like that. Going back to the reason I was animated on the side, was because of the atmosphere the players created on the training pitch.

On Sheffield United bringing a strong squad

It is (a test), but every game brings challenges and tests and I really look forward to that side of the game, the tactical side I really enjoy and I was really impressed with the technical ability of the boys today. If we can put organisation and hard work with that as well, i'm sure we will give them a good game. What we have done today, if we can take that onto the pitch tomorrow, then we are going in the right direction.

Bolton Wanderers Reaction

It was encouraging, there was a belief and what we need to do now is keep installing that belief and build on it, in training and ultimately it's all about results. With that, results build confidence, confidence brings belief, belief brings dreams and ambitions and who knows, we will give it a good go!
