Exeter Reaction

8 October 2016

Paul Hurst talks about today's performance and gives his thoughts on being linked to the Shrewsbury job.

Town boss Paul Hurst says that he has not be happy with a point after today's nil-nil draw at Exeter City.

Speaking after the game, he said: “I think it's a good point away from home - particularly when we haven't performed anywhere as close to our best.

“There were a few scares there, along the way. Some good defending and some things that we brought on ourselves, and some good play from Exeter.

“Overall I think we have to be happy with a point because of the way the game played out.

"I am not going to sit here and say we were the better team or anything like that - I thought Exeter played well," he admitted.

"Today we had to hang on in there. If you can pick up points when you haven't played well, there's an element of positivity to that.

"There was quite a bit of last-ditch defending from us – and some good defending at times.

"On other occasions, Exeter had chances whereby if they were at the top of the league, they probably would have taken them."

Asked why he thought his side hadn't scored a goal in open play for over 400 minutes

Hurst said: “Good question. I think we've created chances. Certainly the game in midweek there were gilt-edged chances, and in some of the games there have been, some of the games there hasn't – like Mansfield. Mansfield there were very few chances for either team. It's something we will certainly look at, but today we didn't create enough chances. I'm sure the goals will come. I'm sure we have got the players that can create and provide, and to finish.”

Linked with the vacant manager's job at Shrewsbury . . .

The Town boss was asked about reports linking him with the vacant managers job at Shrewsbury, he said: “I'm the manager of Grimsby. I'm wanting to try and do the best we can here. If you get linked with thing, you hope it's just an indication that people are perhaps taking notice. But the job in hand is here. We've got to try and finish as high up the table as we can.”
