EXTREME LEISURE, the brand led sports and leisure property developer, is proud to announce a partnership with Grimsby Town FC for the development of a New Stadium & Leisure Development at Peaks Parkway in the town.
Inspired by their passion for sport and the surrounding lifestyle, Extreme’s goal is to deliver destinations that not only showcase the best of what Extreme has to offer but also inspire progression through sport and activity enabling consumers to live the brand and an active way of life in one place.
Utilising sport and leisure to breathe life into neglected or under-utilised sites Extreme’s schemes deliver valuable inward investment, job creation and visitor experiences that significantly enhance the community in which they are located.
Having now signed an agreement with Grimsby Town FC, Extreme is now progressing with the viability assessment of the project with a view to obtaining pre-application planning.
The current facility mix being considered includes the following, a state-of-the-art 14,000 capacity Football Stadium, a new Ice Rink facility, additional sports and leisure facilities, retail and food & beverage offers. To ensure viability and the least cost impact to the local district, an enabling element of affordable residential has been included. As part of this Extreme has agreed and secured full funding which also includes expressions of interest/ pre-let agreement for 50% of the development with quality national leisure operator.
The level of investment for the Stadium & Leisure Project is in expected to be in excess of £55 million, with the number of full-time jobs created will be in excess of 320 full-time positions excluding construction based on the design and facility mix.
Cllr Ray Oxby, Leader of North East Lincolnshire Council, said the announcement of Extreme’s interest in the community stadium proposal was further evidence of the private sector’s confidence in the area, and the authority, to support innovative business projects. He stated: “We’ve made it clear from the start that where there’s the potential for public assets and resources to be involved, we must follow a strict and proper process to make sure we get the right result for the whole area. However not withstanding that, and while developing any detailed proposals are a matter for the company and the club to pursue, news that a leisure industry leader is now actively involved in hopefully creating a great community facility, and the jobs it can potentially bring, is very positive. There are exciting times for North East Lincolnshire and we now look forward to seeing how the company’s interest and partnership with the club evolves over the coming months.’’
Grimsby Town director, John Fenty added: “We are delighted that Peaks Parkway has now been chosen as the reference site for this very exciting development. It will ensure that the Grimsby Town Football club remains at the heart of the community for future generations, providing a lasting legacy in a new state of the art Community Stadium at the centre of a leisure destination. We are very pleased to have teamed up with Extreme who have an outstanding track record of delivering excellence in the leisure industry. They say that good things come to those who wait, and we’ve waited so we are looking forward to the day when the ground is broken. Importantly during the evolution of the scheme there will a number of further consultations in addition to those which have already been undertaken.
Feedback emanating from these will be taken into the design with the intention of causing the least impact to local residents”
Alistair Gosling Chairman at Extreme commented: “We are very excited to be working on this sport & leisure development and the opportunity to create a fantastic new stadium and sports destination. This will provide inbound Investment, local employment and better facilities for the Locals and Visitors of North East Lincolnshire. It is further commitment to the success of Grimsby Town FC and their achievement of promotion to the league.”
Following Extreme’s approval we will be working on a pre-app, consultation & formal planning application to be submitted to the council, we can make no further comment at this stage.
