Mansfield Town Team News

22 September 2016

FOR the first time this season, manager Paul Hurst will have a fully fit squad to choose one for Saturday's lunchtime visit to Mansfield Town.

At his pre-match press conference today at Cheapside, the manager discussed his injury update. "We're okay at the minute, so there's lots of options for me to choose from and some decisions to be made after last week" said Hurst. "I have reiterated on numerous occasions to the players that standards have got to be very high because realistically, there's no point having a strong squad if I stick with the same 11 all the time."

When discussing making changes for Saturday, Paul confirmed that he has decisions to make. "It won't be taken lightly, whatever team I go with" said the manager. "Whether it's lads getting another opportunity or changing some personnel, I want us to put in a good performance, one that will need to be good to get something at Mansfield." The Stags currently sit 9th in the Sky Bet League Two table, two points ahead of the Mariners after 8 games.

Following last weekend's 2-0 defeat, Hurst understands the performance was below what was expected. "It certainly was a little misguided at times, watching it back I think both teams negated each other for quite large parts", explained Hurst. "We've got to be better on the ball, especially when you are a goal behind, take more care on the ball and create more opportunities. That was probably the first time we haven't created many chances to get a goal, especially when you are a goal down you need to do that, so that will be an area we look to improve."

The Mariners will travel in their numbers, with our 1,595 allocation selling out a week prior to the fixture for the 12:15pm kick off.

You can catch the full pre-match press conference later this evening, as well as full match commentary tomorrow over on Mariners PlayerHD.
