Akwasi Asante will be absent from Saturday's trip to Barnet and joins Gavin Gunning on the sidelines, who is serving the second match of a three match suspension.
Manager, Russell Slade confirmed that it is unlikely that Asante will feature before the end of the season, but will continued to be monitored. "It's unlikely (he will feature). Dave and the player do not feel that it is a risk worth taking to put him back. It has gone on (the injury). He perhaps came back a bit too early before, so we don't want to do any damage. The important thing is that we get it right because we don't want it recurring again, so that's his situation".
Russell Slade also confirmed that there are a couple of players that remain doubtful, but refused to identify those in question. "If I tell you i'll be telling Barnet", joked Slade. "We've picked up a couple of injuries to be honest, but that gives us the opportunity to play one or two others as well. It's the same policy really to make two or three changes to give others the chance to show themselves".
The Mariners hosted Barnsley on Tuesday in a 'behind closed doors' friendly, giving fringe players the chance to impress, alongside a couple of trialists. "It was a really good exercise, it was worthwhile, it gave me an opportunity to see some of our players and young players which I haven't seen much of. There were a couple of trialists too which played well on the day".
When pushed on identifying the trialist in question, Slade played his cards close to his chest. "Not on this moment in time (identifying the player). He's something that we are looking at going forward, we will be coming to a conclusion on it. There's always going to be a possibility isn't there (on signing the player) when somebody is outstanding. The Chairman, the secretary and I have been looking at the situation and it might be something we can do".
