Grimsby Town Football Club are delighted to announce the signing of former Port Vale striker, J.J. Hooper on a two-year-deal.
The 23-year-old has spent the last few weeks on trial at Cheapside with the current squad, impressing manager Russell Slade enough to sign the striker. Hooper will wear the number 9 shirt.
In August 2011, Hooper signed a two year scholarship with Newcastle United and went into the team the following day against Chelsea under 18s and scored a hat-trick. In February 2013, Hooper was released by Newcastle United and signed a one-year-contract with Northampton Town following a successful trial period with the club. During his year long deal, he spent loan periods at Alfreton Town and Farnborough respectively, scoring 6 goals in 11 appearances for the latter. He then made the move to Conference South team, Havant & Waterlooville where he made 37 league appearances scoring 13 goals.
In the summer of 2015, Hooper had trials at a number of Scottish clubs, before eventually making the move to Port Vale in August, where he signed a two-year-deal. In his two year spell at the club, he made over 50 league appearances scoring 10 goals despite being played out of his natural position. In his second year at the club, he made a return to previous club, Northampton Town on loan, making 10 league appearances for the club.
Hooper is not eligible to play for Town this evening however, he will be available for selection on Saturday, where we welcome Coventry City for our opening home game of the Sky Bet League Two season.
You will be able to catch JJ's first interview as a GTFC player on Thursday over on iFollow, as we catch up with him at Cheapside.
