EFL fans across the world will once again be able to watch their team compete live on television during the 2017/18 season.
The EFL has today shared the list of international territories and broadcast partners that will show live Sky Bet EFL and Carabao Cup matches as the excitement and anticipation starts to build both at home and abroad ahead of this weekend’s big kick-off.
“This is great news for both Clubs and their supporters, wherever they may be in the world,” said EFL Chief Executive, Shaun Harvey. “We are delighted to see the increased appetite from existing and new partners for our competitions and that can only serve us well for the future.
“The proliferation of the global game means having a regular and prominent presence internationally has never been as important and is very significant to our Clubs who are looking to further establish themselves in key overseas markets.
“This announcement is supported by this summer’s launch of the new ground-breaking digital platform, iFollow that will revolutionise the way thousands of EFL supporters overseas gain access to their Club as well as providing revenue opportunities previously not available.”
Today’s news is a result of a new international TV rights agreement that commences this season and will see the EFL increase its global exposure. The rights have been sold on behalf of the EFL by Pitch International.
Previously announced in 2016, the five-year arrangement guarantees $160m of revenue, which represents a 68% increase on the previous rights cycle.
Earlier this month, the EFL issued an Invitation To Tender (ITT) for its domestic live broadcasting rights. The rights, which are available from the start of the 2019/20 campaign for a period of between three and five seasons, are for all EFL League matches including the Play-Offs, the EFL Cup and the EFL Trophy.
In addition, the EFL has also gone to market with its Domestic Highlights Rights, which are available for a period that will conclude at the same time as any new Domestic Live Broadcasting Rights deal.
