Grimsby Town manager Russell Slade says the Mariners are eager to deliver a good result at home to Crewe Alexandra in Sky Bet League Two on Saturday (3pm).

Town host David Artell’s men in their third home league game of the season on the weekend, and Slade says his men are ready for the challenge.

Speaking on iFollow Mariners, the gaffer said: “It’s a challenge and they’re a team that have obviously started the season, in terms of results, better than ourselves but we still go in there believing in what we’re about, and we’re hopeful to get a result.

“It’s as important as the last one, and as important as the one after Crewe. They’re all important and it’s another opportunity to seize.

“I’ve had [Chris] Dagnall before and he’s very good with his movement – a striker who’s playing well – and he seems to be making a good partnership with [Chris] Porter up front, and they’ve got [George] Cooper who’s started the season exceptionally well for them.

“They have got threats and at this moment in time they’re performing well.

“But we’ve not quite got the results for one reason or another, but I know that this group is capable and as long as we stick together the results will come.

“You always want to be winning your games at home, it’s important, and nobody goes out there with the intent of not winning.

“And we’re all disappointed that we haven’t delivered the kind of positive result that we want, particularly at home.”

Slade also said that the Town fans can play a big part in the clash with the Railwaymen – who are still unbeaten in the league so far – at Blundell Park on the weekend.

“I know more than anybody how the fans can play a part at home, having been here before, and they’ve been very good.

“And sometimes, for one reason or another, it’s not always easy to remain positive throughout a 90 minutes as a football fan because it’s emotional.

“But we want to deliver for them as much as anybody – we want to deliver for ourselves on Saturday, we want to deliver for the fans, we want to deliver for each other, we want to deliver for the chairman and the board, we want to deliver for everybody – make no mistake about that.

“We will go out with the intent of winning a football match on a Saturday,” he said.

Slade added that he will see how new signing Jamille Matt and Scott Vernon come through training tomorrow, ahead of selection for Saturday’s game.

Tickets for Saturday’s game are now available at an early bird price.
