Speaking after the game, Slade said: ''The first half was poor from us.
''For the first few minutes we were fine but we weren't playing the ball out from the back or moving the ball quickly enough and weren't progressive enough with the players not appreciating the basics of the game.
''So it was a really disappointing performance first half and we never really got going."
Decisions were key.
''Second half we came out of the traps and looked a little bit lively and showed more intent but a couple of decisions were key.
''There was a handball and a stonewall penalty that would've dragged us back into the game but wasn't given and on top of that, the footage of the sending off shows there's a grapple and no punch or elbow thrown in anyone's face.
''It doesn't look like he's actually looking so whether the linemsan has given it, I don#t know but obviously that was key because it meant we went down to ten men.
''The third goal was again through not getting up to the ball and affecting the ball so there's much more improvement that has to come. We're better than that but we have to prove that."
''We have a lot to prove now individually and collectively because overall, that's a disappointing display from our point of view, we tried to get ourselves back into the game but that's difficult with ten men.''
Slade also denied that there are any disciplinary problems after a third red card of the season saw Sam Jones dismissed for an off the ball incident, saying: ''It might appear that way but two yellow cards for Zak (Mills) and two yellow cards for Berrett so you could hardly call that petulant.
''Obviously you need to avoid them and to take three in four games is not great but I think there needs to be more consistency in the middle of the pitch because we haven't had that in the last two games.
''From my point of view, it needs to be better.''
Summing up the game.
Asked to sum the game up, the Town boss said: '''Overall, not good enough.
''Did we deserve to win the game today? Certainly not but obviously, there were a few things that went against us but that tends to happen when you're chasing the game or in a difficult situation, and we put ourselves in that situation."
The players will be in on Sunday.
''We'll be in tomorrow morning working and if things are going wrong, you've just gotta work harder at them until things become better.''
