Club & Mariners Trust Support CARE Food Bank Initiative

6 December 2017

Ahead of our Forest Green Rovers fixture on Saturday 9th December, Grimsby Town Football Club & the Mariners Trust will unite and work alongside Christian Action Resource Enterprise during their food bank collections.

"CARE is a local charity in its 25th year of supporting local people with a range of services including deposit free housing, one to one community support, charitable furniture donations from our CARE Shop in Cleethorpes and of course our Daily Bread Food Larder which has access points in central Grimsby, Willows and Immingham", said Sarah Watson, Customer Support Officer at CARE.

"The Daily Bread Food Larder is located in the heart of Grimsby’s East Marsh serving people across North East Lincolnshire, where the demand for food has gone up 300% in the last two years, particularly with more families applying. We rely largely on the kindness and generosity of the people and agencies in our community, so support from The Mariners Trust and Grimsby Town Football Club will give help to the adults and children in our communities who need it the most."

Over the next few days, the Mariners Trust will be auctioning a signed and framed 13/14 shirt which had been donated to the organisation. This shirt is available over on their official eBay page.

"The Mariners Trust is delighted to team up with the football club to help raise money for such an important local charity", said Mariners Trust Chairman, Paul Savage.

"Christmas time can be a difficult time for many families and when we found out some of the club's supporters were taking part in such a worthwhile exercise, we felt we had to join in their efforts and do our bit. We'd urge all supporters to either take part in the raffle or auction or to bring items of food to one of the drop off points prior to the match."

Grimsby Town Football Club will also be hosting a 'raffle' for a signed 17/18 home shirt, with all proceeds being donated to CARE and their fantastic cause. Entries can be purchased by clicking HERE and cost £1 per entry with no limits per person. This will be the perfect opportunity for exiles to donate to the cause. A winner will be chosen at random on Friday 8th December.

A number of Mariners Trust members will be holding a GTFC fans food bank collection from 1:30pm on Saturday 9th December on the corner of Imperial Avenue in the run-up to our home fixture vs. Forest Green Rovers. Grimsby Town Football Club will also be acting as a food collection point from Monday 4th December. Anybody wishing to make a contribution can do so by bringing in their donations to the GTFC Club Shop.

Merry Christmas from all at Grimsby Town Football Club.
