TOWN boss Russell Slade believes that his side are building some vital momentum ahead of the festive period after the Mariners picked up their third victory on the bounce in the 1-0 win over Forest Green Rovers on Saturday afternoon.
Speaking after the game, he said: ''I'm very pleased and it's something we wanted to achieve, but we won't get carried away because we never got carried away when we lost a couple so we won't now.
''But what it does do is give us a bit of momentum before two very important games over the Christmas period.
''We knew what they would do, that they'd try and play out from the back and chances at the back and you've go be patient and wait for those triggers to win the ball, which we did on many occasions but it would've been nice to kill the game off.''
On the penalty and winning goal
''If he's the last man he had no choice, the referee. I haven't looked at it but certainly there looked to be a push in there and it's got us off the mark.
Sam has taken the last one and we've got Ben (Davies) as well so there was a bit of confusion but that's changed now, it's gonna be Ben.
''We don't wanna put Sam under anymore pressure, he stepped up because he was confident but it didn't happen and the important thing is that Mitch Rose was there to follow it up.''
On not killing the game off
''In the final third we threatened so many times and it's those choices and decisions that are important but we'll get better.
''We'll improve and we'll work on them in the week but it would've been an easier afternoon if we got that second goal.
''While it was still 1-0, Forest Green were still a threat and they were on a good run, I don't think they've lost in seven so whilst it's 1-0, they would've still felt there was a way back in.''
On two tough looking away games to come
''Yeah, very tricky against the two top teams in the league.
''They've drawn today against each other but we go there and it's a challenge we need to be up there.
''They'll be important games for both football clubs so we'll look forward to it.''
