Grimsby Town Football Club are delighted to announce an extension of the deal with the Mariners Trust to operate the ground bars at Blundell Park.
The Mariners Trust have successfully managed the bars since 2012 under the stewardship of Licensee and Mariners Trust member, Sharon Dobbs.
In that time, there have been a number of changes and additions to the operation that have warranted a new arrangement being put in place. The ever dependable Dave Roberts, the glue of such an organisation, who worked on the original contract, was asked to represent the Trust in negotiations to reach a new agreement.
John Fenty said: "It has been a great partnership. It all began over 5 years ago when the Club were looking at how the Club and fans could come closer together. Then the penny dropped that if the Mariners Trust were to manage the bars it could be a focal point for them to build membership and speak on behalf of the fans to support, challenge and bring forward new ideas to the Club. This was coupled with the idea of fan representation at the top table.
We spoke to the Mariners Trust about this and the idea quickly developed and a set of objectives were agreed. Those objectives were soon realised. The two main ones were to grow the membership of the Trust to a minimum of 750 and raise a contribution to the club of £30K per annum.
The latter seemed a tall order but remained an objective and that is where running the bars came in, giving the Trust the means which resulted in a ‘win win’ situation. The profit the Club used to make on the bar sales would go towards helping to achieve the target of £30k. The Club continued to employ the staff directly, operate the payroll, pay the insurance, rates, electricity, water and maintenance of the buildings. A contribution towards these costs was agreed, but importantly the profit from the bars made the target realisable.
I consider this is the most progressive Club /Trust partnership in the country, something everyone concerned should rightly be proud of and I sincerely hope it goes from strength to strength in representing the Club and Fans”.
