In an exclusive iFollow interview, Town goalkeeper James McKeown says that the visit of Forest Green will bring the Wembley memories flooding back.
The Mariners face Mark Cooper’s side on Saturday for the first time since that famous victory at the national stadium in 2016.
“It was definitely the best day of my career,” he said, just because we’d worked for so long to achieve it.
“We came so close and failed before, and we put that Wembley thing to bed as well because the couple of times before hadn’t gone well.
“It was just a relief of achieving what we’d set out to do for so long and what it meant to people, and on a personal level and as a group, we took a lot of stick that year at different times.
“I certainly look back to the start of that season when I got a lot of stick, and the gaffer at the time stuck by me, and in the end to do what we’d set out to achieve when people have doubted you along the way, just makes it a little bit sweeter.
“The football club should never have been at that level, it should always be in the Football League, so it’s nice to be part of the team that managed to get us back here.”
