Grimsby Town 2-1 Mansfield TownTWO first half goals from Sean McAllister and Scott Vernon were enough to see off a stubborn young Mansfield Town side this afternoon.
Town took the lead on 18 minutes when Sean McAllister was on hand to tap home after Adi Yussuf's shot was pushed back to the Town midfielder by the Stag's keeper.
Then Scott Vernon rattled the crossbar with a powerful header, before Asante saw his follow up saved on the line.
The Mariners doubled their advantage on 29 minutes. Comley did well to beat his man, before crossing for Vernon to poke the ball home.
But a few minutes later the visitors reduced the arrears when Lewis Collin's curling free-kick beat Town keeper Andy Warrington.
In the second half, Asante's good run and shot was saved by the Mansfield keeper, and Scott Vernon's looping header was disallowed after the Town striker was flagged for offside.
The win sends the Mariners to the top of the Central League North East dvision, ahead of second placed Hartlepool United on goal difference.
