The 19-year-old began his career at Kidderminster Harriers under Gary Whild, where he came through the clubs academy before signing a professional contract in January 2015. A number of eye-catching performances throughout the season drew the attention of Birmingham City, who signed the youngster in January 2016.
After finding chances in the first team limited, the Mariners approached Maxwell earlier in the window. "They tried approach me a couple of weeks ago", mentioned Maxwell. "The club have finally allowed me to come out on loan to get some game time. I'm just pleased that I've come to such a big club!".
As a self described holding central midfielder, Luke can also cover the left hand side of the pitch bringing balance, energy and physicality that the manager has been searching for. "I sit and protect the back four, look to get on the ball, keep the ball ticking over and win my tackles", described Maxwell. "I've been playing as centre back as well, I prefer centre midfield but I can fit in at centre back as well if needed".
