Grimsby Town Football Club are delighted to announce the signing of striker, Harry Cardwell on a two-year-deal.
The twenty-year-old becomes Russell Slade's sixth signing of the summer, after impressing during a trial period with The Mariners.
"I'm delighted to be here", said Cardwell. "I have been around the club for the past two weeks and i'm really excited to be part of the coming season."
Cardwell began his playing career at Hull City, where he played within the Academy system from the age of 12, before leaving for Reading FC at the age of 16. During his time at The Royals, he spent time on loan at Woking and Braintree Town respectively, appearing against The Mariners in the second leg of our National League Play-off Semi Final against The Iron.
In January 2017, Cardwell joined Premier League new-boys, Brighton & Hove Albion on loan until the end of the 16/17 season, before returning to Reading to see out the remainder of his contract.
Cardwell has also represented the Scottish National team, appearing for Scotland Under 19s on 9 occasions, scoring twice. He has also appeared for Scotland Under 21s on one occasion.
Speaking exclusively to GTFC.co.uk, Cardwell is determined to continue his goalscoring form in pre-season into the 17/18 season. "I'm 6 foot 2, quite quick and I like to get in behind the defence and ultimately, I want to keep scoring the goals that help the team". In 5 pre-season appearances, Harry has scored 4 times, including a goal on his first appearance in our 4-2 victory over Cleethorpes Town.
Since joining the club on trial, Cardwell has been full of praise of his new manager, Russell Slade. "Russell has been great, hes been fantastic, hes been really welcoming", said Cardwell. "He said there are things to work on and i'm willing to put in the hard work to improve for this coming season."
You will be able to catch an exclusive interview with Harry later this evening on iFollow.
